446. Breeding box set up

This is a typical set up we use for our breeding pairs. It is an 18 litre RUB's box. We prefer a one box per pair set up rather than the harem method as we find it easier to keep a record of who did what, where and when. once the pair have been together for a couple of weeks the male will be removed. To help keep eggs warm laid during the night or when we are out we place the nest box at the same end as the hide, which both then are over the heatmat. For setting up a nesting box we add a 20 gram vermiculite/perlite mix + 20 gram water, themn cover with moist sphagnum moss. Once all the contents are in the nest box we weigh and record it so that we can keep the same moisture level throughout the season.
