117. Afghan asylum seekers produce eggs

After a long wait we found that Sangin our Afghanicus female had produced us a couple of eggs this morning. Both look in good condition and were a fair size for these minature Leopard Geckos. They are nicely tucked up in the incubator and our fingers are crossed for successful hatches in about 50 days time.

116. And now 6 Easter Sunday eggs!

Egg laying has certainly stepped up in the last few days. First thing this morning we found 4 good eggs, 2 from our patternless Patricia and 2 from Nell our hi-yellow. This was followed by the discovery of 2 more at 1100 hrs from Elver a classic normal. So a great holiday weekend so far for Easter eggs with the possibility of se ore before the day is out.

115. Six Good Friday eggs

Definitely getting into top gear as far as this breeding season is concerned with 6 great looking eggs collected first thing this Good Friday morning. Also the possibility of a few more before the day is out as we have a few more females ready to drop. As for those collected this morning 4 were from first time layers including 2 from a female Macularius Macularius (Meriva) crossed with a male Macularius Afghanius (Kabul). Fingers crossed that we get a successful hatch on this pair as it will be fascinating to see what they turn out like. The other first timer was Regina (Tremper hybino) who we mated with Red Ron (Tremper red eye eclipse). We could call him ever ready Red Ron as he always delivers in the mating game. Finally we had acouple of eggs from 6 week Izzy. The 6 weeks prefix is on account of her being a slow layer at about 6 weeks between cluthes.

114. Attendance at shows 2011

We are pleased to announce that so far we have booked tables at:
ERAC Rayleigh show 22nd May 2011
IHS Doncaster show 26th June 2011
EHS Norwich show 10th July 2011

For the ERAC show you will be able to find us on the EHS club table where we will have a small number of 2011 Leopard geckos hatchlings and 2010 adults for sale. Also a few well grown on Cornsnakes and some Dubia cochroahes ideal for starter colonies will also be available.

113. Bad eggs

Seems like we have loads of manky eggs so far this year. Whilst we are pretty similar on the number hatches compared to this time last year we have lost a very large number due to bad eggs. Possibly it is because we have a lot of novice and inexperienced breeders this year who are dropping their eggs in bad locations. Also we have lost a few by collecting them too late after they have gone cold. In consequence, looks like we are currently only getting a 33% success rate. But on a more positive note it looks like we should see some improvement in the next few weeks as our more recently laid eggs are in far better shape. So onwards and upwards to eggfinity and beyond. A couple more hatches are expected within the next week after which the pace of hatches should swing into top gear.

112. This is QI

Quite interesting indeed is the pattern of this baby that hatched out 11/04/2011 after a 50 day incubation with a weight of 3 gram. Looks like it will be a hypo when it grows and the dark element fades. Sire is Isuzu who has a partial bold stripe appearance and the look of Tremper bandit though it certainly didn't come from his parents. The Dam is Poppy who is a hypo though she may have some red stripe in her on account of a micro fine red stripe appearance.

111. Tremper no 3 for 2011

This is our third Tremper of the 2011 breeding season which hatched out Saturday 09/04/2011. Weight was the rather standard 3 gram and length of incubation was 50 days. Overall fairly standard banding and nothing special about the eyes. Dam and Sire are both first time parents so now proved. Dam is Lisa a blizzard bred in 2009 and trhe sire is Juno a red eyed Tremper eclipse who hatched in 2010.

110. Delayed birth announcements.

We treated ourselves to a trip over to Holland last weekend in order to go to the Houten reptile show. So for the most of the last week we have been catching up and didn't have the time to announce our latest additions to the family. Anyway here they are up top. The baby uppermost escaped from the egg late evening 01/04/2011 after an incubation of 48 days and weighing 3 gram. Same weight for the lower baby who emerged a little later on 02/04/2011. Both share the same parents marge (hypo)and Isuzu (broad stipe abberant). Looks like they will turn out hypos as the dark banding is brownish and already fading at 1 week.

109. Friday's early delivery

Here we have a couple of pictures of the sibling in post 107. This baby has all the same background details apart from a longer incubation period at 49 days when it hatched out on 01/045/2011. One picture shows the hatchling breaking through the egg shell and taking a breather as it gets used to its new environment. The other picture was taken a couple of hours later. looks identical to its sibling dun it!
